MATCHMAKING SUCCESS IN SYDNEY

6th August 1997

To date 1,100 members of the NSW Australian Jewish community have registered to become donors on the Australian Bone Marrow Registry.

Through the campaign, co-ordinated by Shula Endrey-Walder at Wolper Jewish Hospital, a Sydney woman has been found to be compatible with an Israeli leukemia patient in dire need of a bone marrow transplant.

The odds of this were 1 in 100,000. The procedure was conducted at Westmead Hospital, Sydney and the bone marrow was immediately flown to Seattle in the United States and transplanted within 20 hours.

At this stage we are praying that a life will be saved.

The donor is extremely well and feels immensely privileged to have been found a match.

If you would like to know how you too could become a donor please contact Shula Endry-Walder
